Wastewater

Design-build treatment for municipal and industrial water, built around cutting organic load, ammonia and odor at the source rather than treating the symptom downstream.

The BCX400 is our hydrodynamic cavitation unit for sludge disintegration. It retrofits into an existing plant without new basins, breaks down cell walls in the sludge stream, and releases substrate that the digester can actually use. University trials in Ljubljana measured biogas yield up from treated sludge by as much as 131 percent, at over 80 percent methane.

Alongside the cavitation stage we specify concentration and polishing plant, and we treat with an alginic biological additive rather than a chemical dose wherever the consent allows it. Kakanj, BosniaBosna river intake carrying municipal, tannery, abattoir and mine discharge. Chemical dosing was not reaching the required standard. Switched to an alginic additive in September 2017, hitting the water quality target at lower cost.
ConcentrationVolume reductions above 85 percent typical, up to 96 percent on some substrates, with COD falling in step.

Biomass

Organic and agricultural residue converted into usable energy, with the digestate returned to land as a soil amendment rather than sent to fill.

Our biomass work spans digester and plasma systems, landfill and lagoon methane recovery, and the front-end handling that decides whether any of it runs reliably. Infectious Disease

Environmental biosecurity: reducing the pathogen load in water, waste and bedding before it becomes a public health or animal health problem.

Most outbreak control money is spent after the fact. Our position is that the same money spent on the waste stream, the water and the housing environment prevents a larger share of transmission. Thermophilic composting holding above 65 °C reliably inactivates the organisms that matter, and it does so without a chemical residue that has to be managed afterwards.

Construction

Design-build construction and program management across large, multi-phase federal and industrial facilities, from first assessment through regulatory closure.

The mechanical side of that work is pressure vessels, process piping and skid assembly — the tanks, headers and runs that make a treatment or gas plant an actual plant rather than a drawing. We fabricate, set and tie in, then hand over with the documentation the regulator will ask for.

Pamela Marcyes mentored hundreds of men and women across every aspect of site work and the administration behind it. She managed cost while understanding the FAR better than most, directing north of $700 million in project-related activity. She had a passion for detail, and she loved her children very much and spoke of them often. Pam is missed, and always will be.

Heroes are not only the names on a plaque. They are the field leaders who kept a crew safe on a bad day, the scientists who published the result that was inconvenient, and the site staff who did the work correctly when nobody was auditing it. We intend to keep adding to this record.

Animal Health

Healthier animals and cleaner watersheds are the same engineering problem approached from two ends. We work the waste stream, the water and the housing environment together.

In housed livestock the dominant variables are ammonia, moisture and pathogen load, and all three are downstream of how slurry, litter and lagoons are managed. Get the manure handling right and respiratory pressure falls, growth performance improves, and routine antibiotic use becomes a choice rather than a necessity. The same intervention is what stops nutrient and pathogen loading from reaching surface water.

The feed-side product is an EU-licensed organic feed ingredient derived from marine algae. It works by competitive exclusion, feeding gut microbes so beneficial populations outcompete pathogens, and by ion exchange that buffers toxins. Ammonia in the faeces falls, which improves the house before it improves anything downstream.

PigsEkogea trial against a 12-month control period: feed conversion ratio 1.78 down to 1.62, mortality 2.96 down to 2.17 percent, average weight 38.1 up to 39.6 kg.
PoultryA 170,000-bird farm over eight crops: roughly 4 percent more live weight, EPEF 373 up to 403, factory rejects 1.32 down to 0.93 percent, mortality 4.34 down to 3.31 percent.

Research & Development

Research and development at MGI is directed by Harry L. Allen III, PhD, Lead Scientist. Nothing goes to a client site that has not first been validated at the bench.

The study below is a joint venture between HLAllen3 Environmental and Ekogea, run on real Agent Orange soil recovered from the EPA and Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology pilot at Da Nang. Soil from 119 sample jars was composited, divided into twelve plots and dosed three ways against an untreated control, with three replicates each. Sampling ran 385 days, from September 2022 to October 2023.

The herbicide results were decisive. Across the treatments 2,4-D fell by an average of 72 percent and 2,4,5-T by 63 percent, with the EPA standard recipe reaching 97.6 and 95.0 percent respectively. TCDD moved far less, averaging 17 percent, and the study is candid about why: the dioxin-degrading organisms, probably Sphingomonas sp., had been largely killed off during the original sample preparation and long-term storage. Of the additives, BCx 900+2 performed best on TCDD at roughly 32 percent.

That reading is consistent with the full-scale record. Where the microbial population is intact, Vietnamese work at Bien Hoa cut TCDD toxic equivalents by 99.5 percent over 27 months, from 10,865 to 52 parts per trillion. Bench work tells you whether the chemistry works. It does not substitute for live soil.

Remediation

Remediation is a measurement problem before it is an earthworks problem. What the contaminant is, where it actually sits, and what the regulator will accept as closure decide the cost of everything that follows.

We work impacted soil, sediment and groundwater across industrial, municipal and federal sites. The sequence is consistent: characterize the impact properly, select a treatment train that the bench data supports, run it at scale, and document to the standard the closure decision will be made against. Where a biological route will do the work, we prefer it, because it treats the contaminant in place rather than moving the problem to another jurisdiction in a truck.

Where excavation and disposal genuinely is the right answer, we say so. The failure mode in this industry is committing to a remedy before the site investigation is finished.

Grant Funding

Most environmental and infrastructure work that should happen does not fail on engineering. It fails because nobody assembled the funding case in the form the program actually scores against.

We support clients pursuing public funding for wastewater, remediation, waste-to-energy and infrastructure projects. The useful work is early: screening a project against the eligibility rules before anyone spends money on an application, and being honest when a project will not score. After that it is a writing and evidence exercise, and the technical narrative is the part most applications get wrong.

Because we do the engineering as well, the scope, the cost basis and the performance claims in an application are the same ones we would put our name to in a bid. That consistency matters when a reviewer checks them.
